Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about privacy, availability, and cost.

  • Blaze Sentry is a multi-hazard safety app that keeps you informed about wildfires, floods, severe weather, road incidents, and community-reported safety alerts—so you can act quickly and stay safe.
    • User-generated alerts – Report hazards around you with title, type, description, severity, and optional photo.
    • Smart location & address autofill – Type an address, paste coordinates, or use your device location.
    • Alert subscriptions & expiry – Follow areas you care about; reports automatically expire after a set window to avoid stale info.
    • Improved notifications – Get real-time pings for nearby official and community alerts.
  • We aggregate from trusted sources such as NASA FIRMS (fire hotspots), NOAA/NWS (weather), USGS (earthquakes), and DOT feeds (roads), alongside community reports created in the app. Availability varies by region.
  • Community reports are user-submitted, near-real-time observations (e.g., downed power line, road blockage, localized flooding). Official alerts are issued by agencies. In the app, they’re labeled distinctly so you can tell the difference at a glance.
  • Yes. You can attach one photo per report to help others assess the situation. For safety and privacy, avoid faces, license plates, and house numbers when possible.
  • To reduce noise, community alerts auto-expire after a defined window (e.g., 12–48 hours depending on type/severity). Expired items are hidden from default views but may be retained for integrity and audit purposes.
  • You can opt in to notifications for your current area or saved places. We’ll notify you when official agencies or nearby users post relevant alerts. You can disable notifications anytime in Settings.
  • We use your location to show nearby hazards and send local notifications (for example, “Flash flood reported 0.5 miles away”). You can also search by address or drop a pin instead—location access is optional and you can turn it off anytime.
  • No persistent real-time background tracking is required. If your device or OS shows background access, it’s used strictly to maintain accurate area-based notifications or region monitoring you explicitly enabled. You can disable this in your system settings at any time.
  • No. Blaze Sentry is not a replacement for emergency services and is not an official law-enforcement channel. Community reports are informational so neighbors can stay aware. For emergencies, always call your local emergency number.
  • We combine automated checks with in-app reporting. Users can flag content for review and we remove posts that violate our guidelines (e.g., harassment, doxxing, spam, or misinformation). Repeated abuse may result in account restrictions.
  • Blaze Sentry is rolling out region by region. Data coverage and alert types depend on local sources. If coverage looks thin in your area, community reports and saved places still work—and we’re expanding continuously.
  • Core features (map, official alerts, community reports, and basic notifications) are free. We may offer optional premium features later—if we do, they’ll be clearly labeled and never required for safety-critical alerts.
  • We store the minimum needed to run your account and deliver alerts (e.g., email, saved places, your submitted reports). See our Privacy Policy for retention periods, data rights, and how to request deletion.
  • We strive for accuracy but conditions change quickly. Treat all information as advisory and use judgment from multiple sources. For imminent danger, follow official guidance from your local authorities.
  • Email us at support@blazesentry.app. Include screenshots if possible, we respond as quickly as we can.
